Sanctuary Retreats provides a portfolio of luxury safari lodges and river cruise boats, delivering unique, boutique experiences for their guests. The company began in Africa with the launch of Sanctuary Olonana in Kenya and has since expanded to operate additional lodges and camps in Botswana, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Namibia.
Sanctuary Retreats recognised multiple issues with their previous website when they approached CSI Media. The primary concern was the outdated design, which did not reflect the high standards and luxury associated with their services. This limited the website’s ability to convey the unique and premium experiences offered at their safari lodges and river cruises. Furthermore, the site struggled to showcase the full scope of their growing business, including the promotion of their river cruise service, which had become an important part of their offerings.
These limitations highlighted the need for a comprehensive redesign to align their digital presence with the quality of their brand.
We designed and developed a bespoke website for Sanctuary Retreats, incorporating their luxury branding consistently across 46 custom components, including banners, teasers, media players, and more. Each component was tailored to align with the brand's visual identity and enhance the user experience. Among these elements, we introduced advanced interactive features, such as a multi-layered map that allows potential guests to explore Sanctuary Retreats' lodges across Africa in an engaging, intuitive manner.
Additional functionality included an interactive “mega-menu” with a clear information hierarchy, enabling easy navigation through the site. We also implemented a multi-step enquiry form that helps Sanctuary Retreats gather relevant information from potential guests, as well as a refined, filtered search feature that allows users to find lodges that match their preferences.
Content plays a pivotal role for Sanctuary Retreats, driving organic traffic and helping users discover their ideal experiences. By using Umbraco as the CMS, and the wealth of components we supplied, the Sanctuary Retreat’s marketing team can efficiently create and manage custom landing pages to promote new lodges, river cruises, upcoming events, and other key highlights.
Umbraco’s integration with modern SEO and meta tools supports these efforts, ensuring the site is optimised for search engines and maintains strong performance metrics.
Additionally, we configured Google Analytics to track key user interactions and ‘events’ throughout critical user flows. This setup provides Sanctuary Retreats with valuable insights into user behaviour, empowering them to refine their offerings and deliver the highest level of service.
